So, you’ve got your fancy new WordPress site up and running… now what?
Did you know that over 40% of the world’s websites are now WordPress? When you have that many websites using much of the same technology, it’s a beacon for hackers to try to find a way in so they can either install malicious software or take over your nice new website. (Trust me, you don’t want to wake up one morning and find out your charming B&B site is now promoting XXX movies.)
These days, WordPress can auto-update a lot of that for you — plugins, and sometimes the core software itself. That’s genuinely helpful, and it’s one less thing you have to think about. But not every plugin even allows auto-updates in the first place (plenty of developers turn that option off, especially on premium plugins), and even the ones that do auto-update can’t tell you when an update quietly broke something anyway, when your domain name is about to expire, or when your site goes down and starts showing visitors “There has been a critical error on your website” instead of your homepage. Software can apply a patch — it can’t notice your site went dark and go fix it.
So, you might ask yourself, is there another solution? Well, of course there is! ME!
The job used to look like a weekly login and a routine update. These days WordPress handles more of that routine part on its own — which is fine, because the update itself was never really the point.
