BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT ME TO?
I could build you a custom designed website, but it’s going to put a dent in your wallet. Instead, I can customize a pre-made WordPress theme at a fraction of the cost.
When I started web design back in 2004 – design was king. I loved creating custom designed sites for clients and then coding them in html and css. Around 2008 I started creating custom WordPress templates… but now the features and ease of use offered in pre-designed themes is pretty darn amazing.
Yes, yes… a lot of companies promise 100% customization but you’ll pay through the nose for that OR it’ll get outsourced to some foreign country. Shouldn’t your money be spent on other things like SEO and/or copywriters so your site actually works for you? Because, to be honest, no matter how good your website looks, without GREAT content and in-depth search engine optimization, it’s just a waste of your money.
There’s no reason why YOUR WordPress theme
should look like THEIR WordPress theme.
A good WordPress theme allows you to customize the look and feel of your site to your hearts content. Many of them come with their own options panel allowing you to change colors, change typography, upload logos, change backgrounds, create beautiful sliders, and do other cool things with your website without ever writing any code at all.
Take a look at the 2 homepage images for a perfectly good example of theme customization.
Did you know that it uses the exact same WordPress theme? Hard to tell, isn’t it? WordPress is super flexible and can be extended by using plugins. Just like themes, there are thousands of free and premium plugins available for you to use. Not only these plugins can add extra functionality to WordPress, there are lots of plugins which can add a whole new platform to your WordPress site.
“But I don’t WANT a WordPress site!”, you say?
Well, don’t get your knickers in a twist… if you don’t want a WordPress site, I can easily create a responsive HTML site to suit your needs. You’ll need some basic HTML knowledge to update the site yourself or you can simply send me the changes you need done. I’ll let you know the cost BEFORE I do the work. Isn’t that easy?
So, you’ve got your fancy new WordPress site is up and running… now what?
One of the major problems of owning a WordPress site is that it will need constant updates. Developers are constantly fixing bug/security issues and many add improvements on a regular basis. Why you ask? Did you know that approx. 25% of the world’s websites are now WordPress? When you have that many websites using much of the same technology, it’s a beacon for hackers to try to find a way in so they can either install malicious software OR take over your nice new website. (Trust me, you don’t want to wake up one morning and find out your charming B&B site is now promoting XXX movies.)
WordPress usually automatically updates itself but that’s not always the case – as with 2 of the most recent versions. WordPress plugins, which add functionality to your site, are also constantly being updated by their developers as well as the theme your site is using.
Now if you’re lucky, some hosting companies, like BlueHost and SiteGround, offer automatic updates and backups. While they’re not 100% foolproof, it’s certainly the easiest way to keep your site up to date.
You can also learn to do updates yourself! It’s not difficult at all to do… the trick is setting a regular schedule so you’re updating every week or every other week. I can easily show you how to do it. The problem with updating yourself is that if you forget, for months or longer, when you try to update that plugin from version 1.2 to version 5.5 chances are something bad is going to happen, added to that, sometimes help isn’t immediately available and your site will be down until you (or someone) figures out what went wrong!
So, you might ask yourself, is there another solution?
Well, of course there is! ME! ME! ME!
I offer a maintenance program for $30/month. Once a week I’ll log into your site and update everything that has an update available. (Sometimes there are updates that are needed ASAP and I’ll do that too.) One of the benefits is that if something goes wrong, I’m right there fixing it! I’ll also create backups of your site on a weekly basis and do backups before every update. Now, you might say that $30/month seems like a lot, but isn’t it worth it to have peace of mind knowing that I’m on the job for you and you can concentrate on making your business successful?
