When I started my company back in 2004, I loved designing websites in Photoshop and then hand-coding them in HTML and CSS. Around 2008 I started building custom WordPress themes (rudimentary at best)… and for years after that, I customized off-the-shelf themes and page builders because that was the affordable route.

Here's the catch: those themes come packed with features you'll never use, and all that extra code slows your site down. So I've come full circle. These days I build lean WordPress themes from scratch, made for your site and nothing else, without the price tag “custom” used to come with.

Of course, a fast, good-looking site is only half the battle. Without well-written content and solid search engine optimization, it won't do much for your business. Keeping the build affordable leaves room in your budget for the things that actually bring in customers.

There's no reason why YOUR website should look like THEIR website.

When your theme is built from scratch, your site starts with your business, not with a template thousands of other websites are already using. You choose the colors, the layout and the features, and nothing gets stuffed in that you don't need.

The best thing about WordPress is that it's super flexible AND, with a few simple lessons, I can teach you how to edit and add content to your own website so you don't have to rely on others to make edits for you! Pretty slick, huh?

“But I don't WANT a WordPress site!”, you say?

Totally fair — plenty of people don't. I build plain HTML/CSS sites just as often these days: no database, no plugins, nothing to hack, and nothing that needs a monthly login to keep it running. They're a great fit if your site doesn't change much month to month, or if you'd rather never think about WordPress security again. You'll need some basic HTML knowledge to update it yourself, or just send me the changes and I'll quote the cost BEFORE I start.

Isn't it time to talk about your new website?

I don't have a fancy office with a lobby, a receptionist, or motivational posters about teamwork. What I do have is a 10-foot commute from bed to coffee maker to desk — and honestly, I've never once been stuck in traffic. Officially, I'm “Doing Business As” (DBA) ONNA Web Design out of Spearfish, South Dakota. But don't worry — you don't need to fly to South Dakota (though you absolutely should sometime, it's gorgeous) to get a great website. I build sites for clients all over the map — no plane ticket or in-person meeting required.
